Producer Thenandal Murali of Mersal (starring Vijay) fame was hospitalised on Tuesday evening in Chennai. According to the latest report, he suffered a heart attack. Many people from the Tamil film Industry have been wishing a speedy recovery to him from their social media accounts.
During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sri Thenandal Films produced and distributed number of devotional movies helmed by Rama Narayanan. The movies Palayathu Amman, Nageswari, Kottai Mariamman and Annai Kaligambal saw the studio garner an image of focusing solely on Hindu devotional subjects. Vijay starrer Mersal was Sri Thenandal Films’100th movie.
After the release of Mersal, the studio faced financial problems and also cancelled several projects that they were associated with. The high budget fantasy drama titled Sangamithra directed Sundar C entered pre-production and it was promoted at the Cannes Film Festival as one of India’s most expensive films. The big budget drama went through multiple changes in its cast and budget before later being scrapped.
Murali was chosen as the president of the controversial TFPC in the election which was held in the month of November 2020. He had secured 557 votes and the election was held at MGR Janaki College in the city, had more than 100 candidates contesting for the several posts.
