11 Coronavirus patients have died due to the oxygen shortage in a government run Ruia hospital in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati. The oxygen tanker arrived late and the Coronavirus/Covid-19 patients, most of whom were being treated in ICU ward, were without the oxygen supply for nearly 45 minutes.
The oxygen tanker arrived late at the hospital causing the shortage of life saving resulting in the deaths of 11 covid-19 patients getting treatment against Coronavirus in the ICU.
The Covid-19 specialty hospital has nearly 1,000 beds. In all, about seven hundred Coronavirus patients were undergoing treatment in the ICU and oxygen beds in Ruia whereas another three hundred were in normal wards. AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered a high level probe into this issue and CM is likely to visit the hospital.
Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his grief over the matter and on the other hand, Chittoor District Collector M. Harinarayanan said that they have avoided further tragedy by setting up bulk oxygen tankers on time and added that the doctors on duty could avoid a much worse situation. Harinarayanan further said, “There was a drop in oxygen pressure initially. It’s unfortunate that 11 people lost their lives due to the shortage of oxygen.”
