Rajinikanth and Nayantara starrer upcoming big-budget movie Darbar is in trouble. A Malaysian film distribution company has moved the Madras High Court to stall the release of ‘Darbar’ starring Rajinikanth, which is gearing up for grand release on 9th January 2020 on the occasion of Pongal. The distribution company sought Rs 23 crore pending dues from Lyca Productions Pvt Ltd. According to the petition filed by M Baskar on behalf of Aloysius Pillai, Director, DMY Creation of Malaysia, the production house – Lyca Productions already has pending dues running to a total of Rs 23 cr for the previously released movies in the Malaysian region such as ‘2.0’ and ‘Vantha Rajavaathaan Varuven.’
A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the release of Darbar. The petition said that Lyca production has started negotiating with some others to award territorial rights for the upcoming film, ignoring the Malaysian company. Lyca should furnish security for pending dues before the release of the movie Darbar, the petition said.
The Malaysia based entertainment company DMY Creations has demanded repayment of Rs 12 Cr from Lyca Productions, which was taken by them at a rate of 30% pa for the making Shankar’ directorial venture, the sci-fi drama 2.0 in which Rajinikanth played the lead role. As the production house is yet to pay due, a petition has been filed against the film Darbar to ban the release.
Rajinikanth and Nayantara will be seen romancing on-screen after almost a decade. Their on-screen chemistry of them in the movie Chandramukhi was much talked about. The expectations are very high on Darbar where Rajinikanth is playing ACP Officer and Nayantara as Architect. The film Darbar also has Suniel Shetty, Nivetha Thomas, Prateik Babbar and Yogi Babu in the supporting roles. The film has the music by Anirudh Ravichander.
